I'm going to be talking about Metal Gear Solid and the time line split in an upcoming MCC. So I'm making a Metal Gear topic in my forum! Woo!

Metal Gear Solid 2 is my personal favorite in the series. Also I'm getting geeked for Peace Walker.

So I've got this big Text file that I've been putting all my info on the original time line into. I'm going to paste it here. So people can follow along before the podcast is actually put together and aired.

This information comes from wikipedia, gamefaqs and The Metal Gear Solid Official Missions Handbook character profiles that I had to manually type out. The shit I had to type out offered the best, detailed history of Big Boss including a few dates and establishing a general idea of when he was originally born.

I've printed out a copy of the "In the Darkness of Shadow Moses" which is a "book" written by a character from Metal Gear Solid. I'll be going through that to see if it offers any insight into Big Boss' life or MGS history. Also it's just cool to have a printed copy of it. Very Happy

Seriously...5,000 year old Earth? Adam and Eve? Where's this shit come into MGS?

Much of Big Boss's established background story has been revised through the course of the Metal Gear series. In the Metal Gear Solid 4: Database, most of what the games mentioned to Big Boss's past was revealed in a detailed timeline, along with the Hydrogen Bomb he was exposed to in a Japanese boat; name of the same boat Godzilla appeared under in the late Godzilla movies. In the original Metal Gear, Big Boss is characterized as having served in the Green Berets, SAS, and GSG 9 prior to serving as the commander of FOXHOUND.[4][12] The character portrait in the Japanese manual for the original MSX2 game depicts Big Boss wearing his eye patch over his left eye. However, the character's sprite in the game depicts the eye patch over his right eye. All subsequent depictions of Big Boss features the eye patch on his right eye. Big Boss's military career is further fleshed out in Metal Gear 2. He is revealed to had served the LRRP during the Vietnam War, followed by SOG and the Wild Geese, before losing his eye in the 1980s and becoming FOXHOUND's commander in the 1990s.[5][13] According to Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2, Big Boss was in his seventies during the events of Metal Gear 2 and his clones were created back when he was in his fifties during the 1970s, the exact year is specified 1972 in Metal Gear Solid 3. Big Boss would have been in his 30s at the time.
Much of Big Boss's established past would be revised in Metal Gear Solid 3. Big Boss is in his late-twenties to early-thirties in the game, which is set in 1964, making Big Boss a decade younger than previously stated. He loses his eye during the course of Snake Eater to Ocelot, contradicting earlier statements of Big Boss having lost his eye during the 1980s. Additionally, the end of the game alludes to Big Boss forming FOXHOUND in 1971 (an event later depicted in Portable Ops), contradicting FOXHOUND's formation during the 1990s in earlier games. It should be noted, however, that the official strategy guide: Metal Gear Solid: Official Missions Handbook stated that Big Boss had participated in World War II by lying about his age, which implies that Big Boss was below 18 or 21 years old during World War II, and thus implying that, contrary to what Liquid stated, Big Boss was not in his fifties when the Les Enfants Terribles Project occurred.[1

Metal Gear Solid Offical Mission Handbook

"Even after my demise, I shall live on, in the fears and tormented minds of my hated enemies."

Born as a third generation Japanese American on Hawaii Big Boss lost his entire American side of family during a Japanese Imperial Navy's attack during World War II. While his Japanese side of family was placed in concentration camps, he joined a Japanese American infantry unit (the 441) in his teens. He gained his first combat experience fighting against Nazis in France his unit contributing to freeing towns from invading Nazi units. After the war Big Boss returned back to the US but suffered from prejudice against him due to his ethnicity. This stunted his patriotism and he returned his attention to fighting for himself and his own ideals.
Acting as a mercenary for the French, Big Boss participated in the Congo Crisis of 1961, and continued fighting in Africa until the second Congo Crisis in 1968. After these skirmishes he offered his combat services in Asia, Africa and the Middle and Far East. Just as the conflict in Vietnam commenced he participated in the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) as an "unofficial solider" (or mercenary), attached to a team of Green Berets and Ranger Units. His skills earned the "great mythological soldier" moniker. Once the Vietnam War ended Big Boss took part in more than 70 missions attached to groups such as the SOG (special Operations Group) the Whiled Geese and Delta Force.
An Abundance of governments and military organizations and terrorist groups contacted Big Boss to recruit him. However he declined many (often well paid) missions and only participated in conflicts were peoples liberation was concerned. This drew attention from journalists who championed this perfect killer. By then now middle aged Big Boss was diagnosed as sterile due to combat injuries. However, the US government highly valued his warfare ability and covertly agreed with Big Boss on on an external fertilization program ( A Project code named Son of Big Boss: Les Enfant Terrible, and also known as the Eve Project.) using external DNA procedures. Despite its inhuman nature the U.S. military deemed t his necessary during the Cold War period.
After a combat wound that blinded him in one eye he ban to participate in military education. In the 1990's (when he was more than 70) he was appointed as a commander of Fox Hound. With ample resources he seized his chance at a life long dream and build an independent militarized nation called Outer Heaven. A covert operative code named solid Snake disabled this nation but was unable to capture Big Boss who escaped and built another homeland in the Middle East naming this Zanzibar. He used refugee and mercenary labor but the plan failed after Solid Snake was again dispatched. Big Bross died in the uprising and after the government collected his corpse his genetic information was analyzed using his remaining tissues. It was then saved as a sample for the base (nucleotide) experiments and added to the awareness patterns of an experimental unit called the Genome Soldiers

Former Commander of FOX-HOUND, once known as the "Legendary Soldier". His remains have been preserved by the Military.

Facts about WWII

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt authorized the internment with Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 1942, which allowed local military commanders to designate "military areas" as "exclusion zones," from which "any or all persons may be excluded." This power was used to declare that all people of Japanese ancestry were excluded from the entire Pacific coast, including all of California and most of Oregon and Washington, except for those in internment camps

Pearl Harbour December 7, 1941. If Big Boss was 16 when Pearl Harbour happened he would have been born in 1925. Making him young enough to have to lie about his age to fight in WWII.

Metal Gear 2 FAQ

http://www.gamefaqs.com/msx/562988-metal-gear-2-solid-snake/faqs/17103

Bio: Nationality: American Height: 180 cm Weight: 89 kg Age: 70s -deceased- Family: Solid Snake -son-, Liquid Snake -son-, Solidus Snake -son- Appearances: Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Information: An American who participated in LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) in Vietnam, and afterwards, exploited his superior skills in SOG (Special Operations Group), the Green Berets and the Wild Geese. He has completed more than 70 missions. During the early 70's he was wounded in battle. After this injury he was diagnosised as sterile (ouch...) US government highly valued his warfare ability and agreed with Big Boss on a external fertilization program. This was dubbed the Les Enfant Terrible project during which three clone's of Big Boss were produced (Solid, Liquid, and Solidus). Despite ethical issues, this was deemed a necessary step to assure national security during the Cold War. In the late 80's, Big Boss participated in several regional conflicts and race liberation wars. He was heralded as a true hero and made the front covers of popular magazines in many countries. During this time he probably met Frank yeager and his "sister" Naomi. In the late 80s, another injury cost him an eye. Big Boss then retired from the front lines and began to concentrate on military education and training. The 1990's arrived and he was nominated as general planning commander of the international special forces squad FOX-HOUND. In the mid-90s Big Boss, transformed by greed and ambitions of absolute power, managed to take control of OUTER HEAVEN, (a military fortress nation in Salzburg) and tried to establish world domination through the country's military powers. Still the leader of FOX-HOUND, Big Boss sent in a rookie, "Solid Snake" to stop Outer Heaven in operation Intrude N313. Big Boss used Snake as a guise to fool the "west" and spread disinformation. Big Boss never imagined Snake would survive the ordeal. Snake managed to destroy Big Boss's ultimate weapon, Metal Gear, as well as defeat Big Boss himself and destroy Outer Heaven. With his ambitions crushed, Big Boss fled to the Middle East. In the late 90s, Big Boss then established another armed fortress nation, Zanzibar Land. He gathered mercenaries from all over the world as well as build up armaments. Also the Czech scientist, Dr. Kio Marv, was captured (see Kio Marv and OILIX for more information). FOX-HOUND once again sent in Solid Snake to stop Zanzibar Land. Snake once again managed to defeat all that stood in his way and was able to defeat Big Boss's right hand man, Gray Fox. Snake then confronted Big Boss. Big Boss killed by Solid Snake in a battle between the two. Later, his remains were taken into possession by the United States government for gene therapy experiments. Notes: Big Boss' design is pretty much Sean Connery with an eye-patch in MG2. Just thought I should mention that.
